THE SURROUNDINGS

The castle of Lacoste is located in the “Golden Triangle”, in close
proximity to the feudal castles of Castelnaud and Beynac, the medieval
fortified town of Domme and the town of Sarlat with its Renaissance
townhouses.
Situated on a rocky promontory, it overlooks the valley of the Dordogne and its tributary river, the Céou.
To the north is the lovely medieval village of Castelnaud with its
fortified castle, transformed by its owner into a museum of medieval
warfare.
Lacoste is opposite the village of Beynac, also medieval and overlooked by its own imposing castle.
A little further, the Carthusian monastery of Marqueyssac with its
magnificient box-tree garden. A very few kilometres west, the castle of
Milandes, which once belonged to the well-known American singer,
Josephine Baker.
Further east, you can visit the villages of Domme and Laroque Gageac,
listed as among the most beautiful villages of France.
To the north, Sarlat, whose reputation needs no advertising, with its
15th century houses, its cathedral and its marketplace…
